Emergency Contact Card

I want to send out a big “Thank You” for everyone who has called or written to wish me well in my recovery from my car accident of a few weeks ago.  It is humbling to know how many friends one has in time of need or personal trial.

In a recent blog post I mentioned that I had learned an important lesson from my accident when I was unable to respond to paramedics with important medical information about myself.  They wanted to provide necessary first aid at the scene and on the way to the hospital but were unable to do much without knowing some basic medical information about me.  They feared that administering a medication that had the potential to help me could, in fact, have serious side effects with a medication that I was currently taking.

After several drafts of the “Emergency Contact Card”, and with the help of many of you who called or emailed in your suggestions, the card is now available for your use.  I have tried to make the form as intuitive as possible, so put your “CAPS LOCK” on and give it a try.  Every driver should keep a current “Emergency Contact Card” in their purse or wallet, preferably next to your driver license.  I also recommend that Moms and Dads that have young children as passengers with them a lot carry one for each child.  If you were unconscious or otherwise unable to respond as I was, and had young passengers who might need medical attention or had emergency personnel trying to get information in order to contact their loved ones, an “Emergency Contact Card” for each child would be great piece of mind.
